The Island of Evia - A Greek Holiday

Staying at the Karylion in Karystos

From Tuesday, 27th April to Tuesday 3rd May, 2011

Old Steam Roller

Steamroller - My research shows it's about 150 years old

A little look over Karystos where our hotel, the Karystion, was sited on a small promontory on the east side of town. Walking from the hotel westwards you pass a steamroller, a fortress, a monument, an anchor and then reach the harbour. Turning right takes you into the town square then up to the Town Hall and a church. There is much more to the town than is shown here..

NB The first day's walk was in the foothills above the town; Castello Rosso (by Myloi) can be seen high above the ships prow with Mount Ochi high on the right.

The first night we ate at the Hotel, thereafter we dined at local restaurants of which there were many in the centre of the town roughly opposite the harbour.

The Hotel Karylion had views over the sea and was pleasing inside. From my bedroom a number of photos illustrate this and a walk to the east quickly took you out of town and into the country.
