The Island of Evia - A Greek Holiday

Day 1 ... (Kalyvia) to Myloi

West Essex Ramblers walked this on Thursday, 27th April 2011

I use Google to find most information, but on this walk I failed to find lots of information that I could verify (perhaps I should type "Searches" in Greek). This includes: the start being Kalyvia, the museum being the Environmental Centre and the vineyard being the Montofoli Estate. I could not find the position of the Old Bridge nor two church names.

We started with a visit to a local Museum. Then walked, for about an hour, along lanes and wooded paths, passed an old church before lunching outside the next church in the woods.

At some point the short distance walkers broke away. Those on the longer walk headed towards the castle. After we turned, the castle was on our right then we reached an aqueduct (1¼ hr after lunch).

We skirted around the castle, along a valley and, those who cared to, walked up to the castle where there was a small church and magnificent views.

Finally we came down from the castle to rejoin the other group who were below in Myloi. Then off we all went, we passed yet another church, then went to a small vineyard for wine tasting: Several of us bought wine to accompany the evening meal.
